Lia is an amazing therapist. She listens and cares about her patients. She’s nice, smart, educated, experienced, and treats her patients the way we deserve to be treated. She has helped me so much. She is positive and she motivates me to focus on my strengths. My sessions with her are engaging and productive. I I highly recommend her. You will not find a better therapist who genuinely cares.
I am deeply saddened I ever went to her, although I definitely dodged a bullet in picking her as my therapist.
I came to Lia in April 2019 at a time when I was especially vulnerable, and was met with disregard and unprofessionalism. I gave Lia my insurance information and asked for an hourly rate given my policy, but she told me she’d contact them and get back to me. I didn’t know how much she would charge per session, but I figured that’s normal for therapists and decided to schedule a meeting to get to know her anyways. Also, her Psychology Today rates display $40-$120 so I figured it would be in that range. I was in the process of shopping around for a therapist, but I didn’t think anything about the fact that the other three I tried contacted my insurance and gave me hourly quotes before we initially met.
For our first meeting, Lia forgot about it by the time I got to her office. She had already left the office. I called her several times, and she finally came back. So, we started 25 mins late. But, I let that go because I understand that people make mistakes.
During our meeting, Lia checked her phone several times and I felt like I wasn’t being listened to or given the attention and care I deserved. It is extremely rude to check your phone in front of a client, especially when this is your first time meeting that person and you don’t know them otherwise. Still, I let that go.
After my session, I called Lia several times to schedule a follow up and she never got back to me. I never heard from her again until 3.5 months later when I received the bill.
She was reaching out to me saying my insurance didn’t cover our session and trying to charge me $200 (!!) for the 50 minutes I was there. That’s insane! I met with other therapists who had Psy. D’s compared to Lia’s LMFT that charged less than her ($180). Also other LMFT’s I met with charged considerably less ($80 and $100).
I’m so glad she never picked up the phone to schedule another appointment, because I would have had no idea that I had to pay such a high fee for a mediocre at best therapist. It’s really sad to think that this is how she treated a new client. I can’t speak to her motivations or thought processes, and all I can do is write this review so other people know about my experience. Needless to say, I will never be returning and I would advise anyone against seeing her too.
